🧘♂️ Issue #28: The Importance of Being Present
The price entrepreneurs pay if they aren't present, the Kravis Entrepreneurship Competition, and a peek into the future with CRISPR gene editing
💬 Welcome to issue #28 of Between the Lines
I’m back in Portland but already missing Claremont from my visit to campus last week. I was back in Claremont with students who’d typically head to Silicon Valley and NYC for winter tech and finance trips. Instead, a few other alumni and I who were able to snag PCR tests brought Silicon Valley and New York City to Claremont.
I got to spend some time with faculty and administrators while on-campus, too, and I am blown away by all the work the college is doing to manage the Omnicron surge. Just wow. Please take a bow, Claremont. 👏👏👏

📢 👥 Community Voices: The Price Entrepreneurs Pay If They Don’t Become Present
Author: Bryan Wish
Bryan is a friend of Claremont and the CEO/Founder of BW Missions. He and the BW team love working with mission-driven entrepreneurs, thought-leaders, and CEOs to develop and execute digital strategies behind book, product, and business launches. After multiple startups, podcasts, and brand consulting stints, Bryan has developed a true knack and desire for helping others succeed in both work and all aspects of life.
I’ve noticed another severe problem with this fixed GPS mindset. Many entrepreneurs think in the progression of the following: I will do this once I build that. We are always seeking to hit the constantly shifting imaginary goalposts and are never able to appreciate and be consciously present to the moments in front of us. This strips us from experiencing moments of joy along the way…
But as I’m finding out, my story isn’t so unique. We all have our own versions of my story as entrepreneurs. The longer I’m on this journey, the more unaware and unconscious entrepreneurs I meet who either don’t realize that they’re on a never-ending and unfulfilling treadmill, or they’ve tricked themselves into thinking that they’re only going to run the treadmill for a short time. I believe there’s an opportunity to change this narrative. There’s a chance to slow the car down, let the internal GPS flow with a little more serendipity, and break the cycle of the treadmill trap that comforts us.
Start 2022 off with an important wake-up call from Bryan. He joins BTL and breaks down one of the biggest dangers he often sees for leaders and entrepreneurs — a lack of consciousness. He shares past entrepreneurial hiccups along with his belief in the importance of being present and reflective. 👇
